Sycamore Than You Knew

  • Federal Safety Net ~ Earlier this month, we released an interactive dashboard showing how many Tennesseans are enrolled in federal safety net programs like TennCare, SNAP, TANF, and WIC. Find the enrollment and expenditures for each of the 95 counties.
  • Giving Societies ~ At our Annual Forum, we launched new Individual Giving Societies. These core donors fuel our responsive and timely resources not otherwise funded. Giving Society members receive exclusive perks like advanced report notice, event invitations, and more. Join a society today!

Not From Around Here

  • The Most Visited National Park ~ Did you know that our only national park, the Great Smoky Mountains, is the United States’ most-visited national park—with over 12 million visitors last year? Recent federal cuts have changed some offerings at the park, so be sure to plan ahead for your next trip.
  • Viral Medicine ~ In a global survey, 45% of those 34 and under said that they have disregarded a doctor’s advice in favor of another source. That includes friends, family, and social media.
  • Cast a Vote ~ Several people in Sumner County got in trouble for voter fraud after incorrectly believing they were eligible to vote. While these residents  received a voter registration card, prior felonies barred them from voting, which sent them back to jail.
  • On Thin Ice ~ After an iceberg separated from an ice sheet in Antarctica, researchers went to see if anything lived underneath. They were surprised to find a whole ecosystem, and scientists believe they’ve discovered dozens of new species.
  • Major League ~ Every major league team in Tennessee has come together for a united cause. The Tennessee Titans, Nashville Predators, and Memphis Grizzlies have all committed to help a statewide initiative supporting children in foster care. Minor League teams like the Nashville Sounds and Knoxville Smokies and muscians Dolly Parton and Thomas Rhett have also signed on.
