The Sycamore Institute recently welcomed Bill Mouchette to our full-time staff as our Policy Analyst. We asked Bill to answer the following questions so you can get to know him better.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Gallatin, Tennessee about 30 minutes northeast of Nashville. Prior to starting at The Sycamore Institute, I graduated from Samford University in 2023 in Birmingham, Alabama, where I studied economics and finance. While at Samford, I was awarded the opportunity to serve as one of four students selected by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) to serve as a Faith & Public Life Young Scholar. During the fellowship, I studied the effects of career and technical education (CTE) programs on young men’s labor force participation rates. After graduating, I spent the past year and a half working at a ready-mix concrete company in my hometown, where I served as a business strategy analyst.
Why did you want to work at the Sycamore Institute?
My twin passions for public policy and economic development led me to seek out opportunities to work in public policy research. Additionally, I believe that thoughtful and considerate research helps bring unity around policy solutions rather than division. The Sycamore Institute excels in seeking justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly towards a more sustainable future for Tennessee. I jumped at the opportunity to do exactly that here at Sycamore.
Where do you want to be in 15 years?
In the next 15 years, I hope to be married and raising a houseful of kids. I also hope that I can look around in my community and deeply know and love the people with whom I work, attend church, and call my neighbors.
What are your interests and activities outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy working out, running, reading, watching sports over a beer with friends, and scenic drives.
What’s a fun fact about yourself?
One fun fact about me is that my favorite author is Wendell Berry. He is the most underrated American author.
