The Sycamore Institute would like to offer a warm welcome to two new interns who are working with our staff this spring. We asked Rebecca and Hayden to share a little bit about themselves below.
If you or someone you know are interested in an internship with The Sycamore Institute, please visit SycamoreInstituteTN.org/jobs. Applications for Summer 2018 internships are due March 9.
Now, let’s meet Rebecca and Hayden!
Rebecca
Name: Rebecca Elias
School: University of Tennessee, Knoxville
Major: Master of Public Health — Health Policy and Management
Hometown: Nashville, Tennessee
Why did you want to intern at The Sycamore Institute?
I have always been interested in health and political science which led me to purse my Master of Public Health degree and concentrate my studies in health policy. The Sycamore Institute presented during one of my seminar courses early during my degree program so when it came time to apply for internships at the end of my program I immediately thought of TSI. By interning at The Sycamore Institute, I will be able to work with timely health policies and legislation in my home state.
Where do you want to be in 15 years?
In an ideal world, I would want to be working for the federal, state, or local government as a health policy analyst or advisor in a large city or if I really want to stay true to my elementary dream journal, running for a political office.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I have been to over 150 concerts (if you count separate Bonnaroo shows individually – I have been to Bonnaroo five times). The first being Backstreet Boys, the most recent Young the Giant, and my all-time favorite The Avett Brothers 18 different times.
Hayden
Name: Hayden Hunt
School: Vanderbilt University
Major: Psychology, Spanish
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Why did you want to intern at The Sycamore Institute?
I wanted to intern at The Sycamore Institute because it seemed like the perfect way for me to get introduced into the communications and public relations world. I also think it is a really important and unique organization that is helping make Tennessee a better place, and my values align really well with its mission.
Where do you want to be in 15 years?
In 15 years, I would love to work in the communications or public relations department for a professional or college sports team. I would also love to work in a similar capacity for a nonprofit working with inner-city kids.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I can say the alphabet backwards!
