Meet Madison & Sami, Our Summer 2017 Interns

The Sycamore Institute has a hard-working full-time staff of four, but we don’t do it alone! Madison and Sami are interning with us this summer and helping out with some policy research projects you’ll hear more about later in 2017. Here they are in their own words…

(And if you’d like to intern with TSI, check out the current opportunities and application deadlines at SycamoreInstituteTN.org/jobs.)

Madison

Name: Madison Kahl

School: The University of Tennessee

Major: B.S. in Biological Sciences (2016)

Hometown: Knoxville, TN

Why did you want to intern at The Sycamore Institute?
After my interest in health policy research was piqued my senior year at UT, I wanted an experience where I could learn more about the evidence-driven process of policy research. The Sycamore Institute offered an engaging atmosphere where I could try my hand at relevant research topics while still having a supportive team at the ready to help me through the learning curve.

Where do you want to be in 15 years?
Given that I am in the process of applying to medical school, I’d hope to be a practicing physician who advocates at the intersection of health policy and medicine.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I have a black belt in karate from when I was 12 years old! (No promises on knowing any of the moves still…)
