Last week, the Sycamore Institute received a national award from the Governmental Research Association (GRA) at its 111th annual conference hosted by EducationNC in Asheville, North Carolina.
The Sycamore Institute won Most Effective Education on a Regional/Multi-Jurisdictional Issue for our 2023 work on federal education funding in Tennessee. Of our two papers, the first report explained how much federal funding each school district received and which counties relied on those funds the most. The second explained the role of the federal government in K-12 education, program requirements, and trade-offs. Sycamore’s leadership staff, Mandy Spears and Brian Straessle, presented the findings before a bipartisan group of lawmakers late last year and the resulting report highlighted several of Sycamore’s key takeaways.
GRA awards recognize exceptional research, education, and communications work by organizations that conduct civic and governmental research across the U.S. To learn more about the GRA or what’s happening with public policy in other parts of the country, visit graonline.org.
