It’s the end of September, and Sycamore was invited to partner with Governor Haslam and Governor Bredesen’s podcast, You Might Be Right, along with two other think tanks, the Beacon Center and Think Tennessee, for a live recording yesterday. Keep an eye out for the upcoming episode!

Sycamore Than You Knew

  • Tracking Taxes ~ How much money does Tennessee receive, and which taxes bring in the most money? Our new, updated FY 2026 revenue tracker is live!
  • Welcome to the Board ~ In August, Sycamore announced that former Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell and Governor Lee’s former staff member Garnett Decosimo joined Sycamore’s board. Join us in welcoming them!
  • Awarded ~ NAMI Tennessee awarded us the Mental Health Leadership Award for our work on youth mental health. This award recognizes a changemaker whose leadership has advanced mental health advocacy, policy, or systems-level change across Tennessee. We’re honored, and can’t imagine a better validation for an organization that doesn’t advocate.
  • Money Talks ~ What current and potential federal funding changes are happening, and how might they affect Tennessee? Join Sycamore on October 9 via Zoom to learn about the changes and how each county may be affected. Registration is free, but required.

Not From Around Here

  • Great Energy  ~ Do you know where your electricity comes from? There are many types, and several forms could be powering your house. So where does Tennessee get most of its power? This short gif from the Bipartisan Policy Center explains.
  • Worker Insights ~ In a bipartisan effort from the Economic Innovation Group and Echelon Insights, a new survey offers insights into what American workers cite as their top priorities, views of the labor market, and attitudes about threats and opportunities in the job market.
  • Free Speech ~ More in Common, a nonprofit dedicated to researching political division and highlighting common ground, recently published an article on American support of free speech. They found that free speech is core to American identity, many Americans underestimate the opposing party’s support of free speech, and that Democrats and Republicans disagree on the conditions of free speech.
  • Power Up ~ A Tennessee lineworker, an apprentice for Cumberland Electric Membership Corp., volunteered to help bring electricity to his Guatemalan homeland. He joined 14 other electric cooperative lineworkers from Tennessee to bring electricity to two remote, mountainous villages.
