The Sycamore Institute would like to offer a warm welcome to Jack Bukovnik, our fall intern. We asked Jack to share a little bit about himself below. If you or someone you know are interested in an internship with Sycamore, please visit SycamoreInstituteTN.org/jobs. Applications for Spring 2024 internships are due October 15. Now, let’s meet Jack!
Name: Jack Bukovnik
School: Vanderbilt University
Major: Political Science, Economics and History
Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio
Why did you want to intern at the Sycamore Institute?
Because of my interest the in legal field, I find criminal justice policy both important and fascinating. The Sycamore Institute’s research on criminal fees and fines was particularly compelling, as not only did it display the county-by-county implications, but also revealed some of the shortcomings and limitations with our current data. During my time at Sycamore, I hope to spend time understanding criminal justice policy in Tennessee, both in relation to criminal fines and more generally.
Where do you want to be in 15 years?
In 15 years, I hope to have graduated law school and have built a career in the legal field. Hopefully, I have the opportunity to work in government, where I can combine my interest in law and public policy to make a lasting impact.
What are your interests and activities outside of school?
I’m an avid Cleveland sports fan, and in my free time you’ll find me cheering on the Guardians, Browns, and Cavs. I have a particular passion for baseball as well, particularly all the stats and analytics involved.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
Two summers ago, I interned for a minor league baseball team in Charleston, South Carolina!
